  • This is the iconic "fiddle-base" model that brought sewing machines into the home.  The Singer New Family, later called the Model 12, was introduced in 1866 and was the first commercially successful sewing machine for domestic (home) use.  It is hard to overstate how important this was, at a time when hand sewing to make and mend clothes consumed a huge amount of time and effort for many women.  The Model 12 made Singer a household name.
  • This one still has its original factory paint and decals in remarkably good condition. After a full restoration, it sews surprisingly well, too.
  • Original Singer bentwood case has also been restored and refinished, with all original hardware and a cubby compartment inside to hold small items.
  • Fold-down tabs on the bottom of the case fit into holes in Singer's treadle base (not included), which allowed it to easily switch from hand crank to treadle power in the era before electricity in the home.
  • Machine and case only, no manual or accessories.
  • Serial number 7140200.
  • Here's a chance to own a stunning piece of sewing history.
  • See it sew!
